Corgi
In July 1956, a Wales company, Mettoy Playcraft Ltd. comes out with a range of die cast toy vehicles that is named as Corgi Toys, the name takes after the popular Welsh dog breed and the famous Corgi dog logo was chosen to brand the new range. In order to differentiate themselves with their strongest competitor, Dinky. All Corgi Toy car models comes with transparent plastic glazing windows, which makes the models more realistic and closer to actual cars. This unique feature has also proved very popular with the masses at the time, so much so that Corgi car models are known as "the ones with windows".
Initial release consist of all British Saloon cars, this includes Vauxhall Velox (203/203M), Morris Cowley (202/202M), Rover 90 (204/204M), Ford Consul (200/200M), Austin A50 Cambridge (201/201M), Riley Pathfinder (205/205M) and Hillman Husky (206/206M). All subsequent early release models were issued in free-rolling form, or with friction drive motors, with the mechanical models designated with the suffix M.
Corgi has since expanded their model range to cover foreign models from Australia, Europe and the United States. with the toys became more sophiscated with the addition of 'Clideamatic' spring suspension, more detailed interior, opening bennet, head lights and opening booths complete with spare wheels. Model trucks and heavy commercial vehicles are also added to the product range under the banner of Corgi Majors. The brand has also closely associate itself with the production of Winter Olympic models and also movie inspired theme models such as the James Bond series.
