Lledo
Founded in 1982 by Matchbox co-founder Jack Odell and Burt Russell. The Lledo company set out to specialize replicating the earlier Matchbox series style. One of the most coveted model for collectors was a Ford Model T van, this issue eventually started a trend to produce limited edition die cast models as gifts or giveaways during product launches and special promotions. The company later started producing replica classic cars under the "Vanguards" range.
Despite the high sales and production volume, the company went bankrupt in 1999 as they can no longer compete with the low production cost and high quality models from Hong Kong and China. The Matchbox company was eventually brought over by Corgi where they continue to manufacture the Lledo range of models in China until 2005 , where the remaining models were incorporated into the Corgi Classics range.
